Aida Vreeto is a twenty-two-year-old Echani woman from Nar Shaddaa. She is a freelancer, primarily associated with the Republic Privateers and the Hutt crime syndicates out of Nar Shaddaa. She makes no secret that past pursuits on her homeworld include bartending, prostitution, petty theft, dancing, spice dealing, and thuggery - all at once. She is famous for running the Imperial blockade during the Battle of Naboo and for capturing Jeth Merk.

[edit] Background
Aida was 'born' just over thirteen years before the Battle of Yavin in an incubator owned by Hans Vreeto, a street doc on Nar Shaddaa. It is unknown who her parents are, but it is probable that the embryo that would become Aida was somehow illicitly pilfered or sold to the doctor. Either way, a slave as exotic as an Echani girl was a status symbol worthy of any sawbones proud of his name, though Aida apparently grew more and more problematic as she was growing older, spending lots of time on the streets in the company of Nar Shaddaa's most unsavory urchins, a solid eight out of ten on the galactic unsavory scale. Such an upbringing, however, gave Aida at least a partial education combined with the hardened tenacity of a street thug.
Balancing practical concerns (a new firecracker of a Zeltron slave) against the fatherly concern for his 'daughter,' Hans decided to give Aida her freedom on her seventeenth birthday. She was starting to eat more, after all. Despite, or perhaps because of, the blurred lines between master/slave and father/daughter, Dr. Vreeto and Aida have a still-friendly relationship - he is the only genuine family she could be said to have, and she will always be thankful that he got her out of the way of his new toy by freeing rather than selling her.
Of course, without many marketable skills, and with an exotic, nimble bloodline, and a sense of pride that could go hand in hand with cheerful self-degredation, Aida had no problem finding work on the E-Block of Nar Shaddaa at Dirty Ernie's Pole Position, a drinks 'n dancing operation primarily catering to fans of swoop racing and writhing girls. Just months after settling into her new job, however, the economy of E-Block was destroyed by Kyle Katarn, and a good few of Aida's friends and customers were killed.
The economy of E-Block collapsed, and Dirty Ernie's was no more in just a few short weeks. Though Aida was forced to live on the streets after being unable to pay rent, soon forced to turn the occasional trick to find a bed and a shower, she had built up a good little reputation. When a girl at the prestigious Emerald Club left to be a gangster's live-in girlfriend, Aida was given a shot to take her place. Because of her willingness to give a cut of whatever she stole from customer's wallets to her bosses, she soon became an unofficial floor manager as well as a popular dancer and even better thief. Now more of an occasional courtesan than any kind of prostitute, Aida took advantage of her good job to enroll in guided holonet courses to learn everything she could about the galaxy, about her Echani background, and gutter-fighting, and began to build toward the time she would escape. It wouldn't be for another four long years, until she was twenty-two, that she was ready. Abruptly leaving Nar Shaddaa behind, she bought a ticket to Coruscant without a word to anyone back home. When she next returned, she vowed, she'd be a scoundrel to be respected and reckoned with.

[edit] The Privateers
It wasn't as easy as Aida thought it would be. Nobody was interested in taking on a space hand who might be versatile and intelligent (and beautiful, Aida'd be quick to remind them) but completely inexperienced. Her luck turned when she met Cheryn Treaus, who offered her a spot on the crew of the YT-2400 Prowler. Having no real idea what she'd be getting into, but promising that she'd work for free until she thought she was ready, Aida became an auxiliary member of the Privateers.
Meanwhile, she'd been making sure to link back to some of her friends on Nar Shaddaa as they rose in the ranks of the Hutt syndicates. Aida will never lose her connection to her home - she's very quiet about what she's doing now, but she has a strong sense of loyalty to friends, and doesn't believe in political loyalties. Anyone who engages her in any sort of discussion about politics, especially Jedi since she discovered the afilliation of "Butcher Katarn," as she calls him, will get more than an earful.
In the Battle of Ottega Aida participated in an assault team to try to disable an Imperial shield generator. Though she fought well in this battle and was first through the doors of the facility, an enemy blaster bolt severely damaged her right eye, causing it to have to be removed later. She now had a cybernetic replacement.
[edit] Running the Blockade
During the Battle of Naboo, 8 ABY, Aida was noteworthy for being the only pilot allied with the Republic to successfully get past the blockading Imperial fleet to the surface try to aid the Republic soldiers and Privateers trapped below. Though her ship, the Blue Dream, would never fly again, the disarray she caused in the Imperial Fleet helped, along with Arala's skillful hacking and the efforts of several others, make the last evacuation of Republic personnel from Naboo possible.
[edit] The Capture of Jeth Merk
In 8 ABY, Aida gained fame by almost accidentally capturing the most wanted man in Republic space, Jeth Merk. Without a clue as to Jeth's identity, Aida, unarmed, encountered him during a meeting between he and Aora Nomirc, and seeing Jeth make a threatening display of his blaster, informed him that she'd take away his rifle if he drew. When Jeth obliged her, she made good upon her offer, and a tussle ensued in which Aora assisted by shooting into the melee, hitting both parties but ultimately hurting Jeth more. With that help, Aida managed to bring down the wanted criminal and, after a brief investigation, was released to widespread honors while Jeth was sent to his deserved doom.
[edit] Departure from the Privateers
After a brief period settling down back with the Privateers crew after the Evacuation of Naboo, Aida, feeling goaded by the Privateers leader, Thalo Spraxx informed him that she thought him incompetent and capable of anything approaching leadership only with the support, guidance, and direction of Cheryn Traeus. For this insubordination, she quite fairly found herself with a quick dismissal. Determined to continue helping her friends, though realizing the paramilitary life on the Ravager was no longer for her, Aida continued to assist her friends by running arms and providing information about goings-on on Nar Shaddaa while she continued her search for a chance to get her own ship.
[edit] An Affair to Remember
Under unknown circumstances, Aida has recently obtained and become the captain of the Muurian Interstellar transport Affair to Remember. Crewed by her, and fellow Echani Shia Sailun and Amica Avice, Aida finally has the freedom and pride of ship ownership that she has been seeking. This can only mean trouble.
[edit] Personality and Ambition
These days, Aida is still working on improving herself - and it's paying off. She's becoming recognized as a very talented pilot and as deadly a shot with a blaster as she is difficult to hit. Mixing that with her capricious Nar Shaddaan wit, she has become recognized by the more experienced Privateers as a good woman to have in a fight.
In her off time, Aida is unable to shake her delight for simulator games, holovids, and heavy bouts of drinking. It is in the aftermath of one of the latter that, eyes blurred from drink, she met and befriended her droid, the sentient AD-1X. Though they seem to cruelly taunt each other more than anything else, they have developed an undeniable bond.
Aida Vreeto is well on her way to her dream: to be known as Captain Aida Vreeto, smuggler, freelancer, breaker of hearts, loyal to her friends, fearsome to her enemies!
[edit] Behind the Scenes
Aida Vreeto is a result of several influences - most prominently Han Solo of the original Star Wars Trilogy and Mira, the bounty hunter, of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords.
Her parents, unknown to her, are Echani nobles - her father is cruel and abusive, and her mother ran away from a terrible marriage. Her father is presently a colonel in the Republic Army, where his cruelty expresses itself in a penchant for discipline, while her mother is a spice addict and street prostitute on one of the lower levels of Nar Shaddaa.
